Science and Drama - Term 2 - Future builders: structural engineering for kids!
Service Description
Ages: 7–10 years Duration: 6 weeks Dates: Tuesday 3rd November – Tuesday 15th December inclusive, except no class on Tuesday 1st December Time: 10am-12pm This term, we’re becoming structural engineers! Starting with questions like "How do we make strong structures?" and "How do we protect delicate things from breaking?" we’ll discover how forces, shapes and materials work together to create strong structures — and what happens when those structures are put to the test. Over six weeks, we’ll investigate pushes and pulls, tension and compression, strong shapes, impact, momentum and shock absorption through hands-on experiments and engineering challenges. We’ll build bridges, domes, investigate crashes and impacts, and take on the ultimate egg-drop challenge! In our final week, we’ll bring everything we’ve learned together for a Christmas Engineering Party, where our young engineers will put their skills to the test in a series of festive engineering challenges. All of the robots, lasers and electronic equipment from the first term will also still be available so that the children can keep experimenting with these. Alongside our STEM activities, each session will include drama, structured games, and collaborative challenges that encourage children to communicate, work together, and build lasting friendships. We also leave room for children's own ideas and interests to shape the journey, allowing curiosity to guide many of the activities along the way.
